ప్రియసుహృద్బంధువులారా! గణపతి నవరాత్రులు నిన్నటితో ముగిశాయి. ఆ గణపతి పరిపూర్ణ కరుణా కటాకటాక్షానికి పాత్రులఒన మీ అందరికీ నా అభినందనలు.

ఇక మన పితృదేవతలను తృప్తి పరచుటకు అనువైన సమయం వచ్చేసింది. మహాళయ పక్షం వచ్చేసింది. అనివార్యమైన ఈ పితృ తర్పణావశ్యకతను సప్రమాణికంగా శశిశేఖర్ రత్నాకర్ గారు వివరించారు. అది మీ ముందుంచుతున్నాను.

My dear friends,

Pitra Paksha is going to be started from tomorrow dated 30th of Sep to 15th of Oct 2012.There are some set rituals to follow during this period as per our texts but i am trying to explain some general things in short that we should do or avoid in this Paksha.

According to Braham Purana Yamaraja the king of Pitra Loka released all Pitras from his Loka in Aashwin Krishna Paksha for 16 days to get food from their family members called Shraadh (Means the food given with due Shraddha as the mark of respect by their family members). If Pitras do not get the same they come back to Pitra Loka being hungry & giving curse to them. Therefore the coming generations have to face tremendous difficulties in their life again and again by such curse that is called Pitra dosha in astrology.So it is needed for us to do Shraadh. The person who does Shraadh with devotion, gets all the comforts, fame and wealth etc in the life by the blessings of our Pitras. It was written a lot about the same in our texts like Yama-Smariti, Atharva Veda,Vishnu Purana, Braham Purana, Markandeya Purana, Mahabharat etc.

What should we do or not do during Shraadha days,i am explaining in brief.

[1] One should offer water with black sesame and barley to Lord Sun facing south in between 11.36 AM to 12.24 PM that is calledKUTUP VELLA (TIME) chanting "OM PITRABHYO SWADHA NAMAH"during all the 16 days.

[2] One should not do shave or cutting hair during these days,if needed can do after noon time not in the morning time at all.

[3] To wash cloths are phohibited in the morning time.

[4] One should throw or spread some black sesame on the floor of the house during these days because Pitras get the extreme satisfaction to see it because it the main food of them.

[5] One should give food to Cow, Crow, Dog, Agnidev and Ants daily.We should not talk to the Brahmin when he is taking meal of Shraadh and should put the TILAK of Ganga Jal or by simple water in its absence on his forehead after taking Shraadh meal.

[6] To use utesils of Silver is the best for Shraadh but must not use steel utensils in any case.Even leafs utensils can use except banana leaf.

[7] If some one comes to your door for begging,must give some food to him.

[8] Pulse of Lentil (Masoor), Gram(Chana), Arhar pulse, Raajmaa, Brinjal, Onion, Garlic, Black Salt, Yellow Mustard and Asafoetide (Heeng) are strictly prohibited in Shraddh food.

[9] We should light a lamp of Sesame oil in front of Photos of our Pitras in the evening time daily.

So we should follow the same as much as we can for getting the blessings of our Pitras & could be unburdened from PITRA RIN.
